5 + Harry Potter Movie Sites in England you Should Visit!

If you love all things Harry Potter no doubt you will want to visit the numerous sites used in the Harry Potter movies at some point!  See our guide here to some of the major filming sites in England!

 

If you are a Harry Potter fan you are sure to have a wishlist of all the Harry Potter filming sites in England and elsewhere that you would love to visit! 

All the Harry Potter movie scenes were filmed in multiple locations (what a great job to have – finding film locations!). 

There are numerous places to visit as a Harry Potter fan, but here are 5 + that you might want to start with on your next trip to England! 

These spots are great to visit – not just for their connection to Harry Potter, but these villages/castles etc are amazing places to see for their architecture, history, and more!

Platform  3 3/4

You can see Platform 3 3/4 at London’s King’s Cross St Pancras railway station, western concourse.

If you recall what happened in the Harry Potter movies, every time a student was off to Hogwarts for a new term they pushed their luggage trolley through a wall at St. Pancras train station, and magically appeared on the special Hogwarts train station!

Platform 3/3/4 is a wall in the station, that is clearly marked.  It is always thronged with tourists at all times visiting this iconic shrine! 

There is also a Harry Potter shop right next to it, where you can buy any themed goodies that you want!

Godric’s Hollow

Godric's Hollow, De Vere House, Lavenham, Suffolk
Godric’s Hollow, Harry Potter’s birthplace was featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. 

It was filmed in Lavenham, Suffolk, at De Vere House on Water Street in the village of Lavenham. See here for our guide to Lavenham!

The house and village of Lavenham are beautiful and just like a historical time capsule, which most of the original medieval houses and buildings still surviving.

 

Hogwarts

Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral was used as Hogwarts a few times in the Harry Potter movies.  In particular the snow covered quadrangle in Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone, where he releases Hedwig, and also in the Chamber of Secrets where the Chapter House was used as the setting for Professor McGonagall’s classroom.

Durham cathedral is an amazing historical cathedral to visit also, awash in history.

 

Broomstick Flying

Alnwick Castle
 

The grounds of Alnwick Castle were used to film many of the broomstick flying scenes, in particular Madam Hooch’s flying lesson. This beautiful castle is an incredibly amazing place to visit.

 

Professor Snape’s Classroom

Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire
 

Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire was the setting of many scenes in Harry Potter movies, including Professor Snape’s classroom. Around the abbey is also a pretty little village, which was used in filming also.

You can have an amazing lovely day in Lacock, taking in the Abbey and strolling around the beautiful village too.
